The new Calcutta B series, like its' predecessor, is constructed from a cold forged aluminium frame, side plates and spool, which create a strong frame with tighter tolerances. The reels also feature the Variable Brake System (VBS) that uses centrifugal brake weights to aid cast control. Unlike their predecessors, however, the 101B and 201B incorporate an Easy Access Side plate so that the brake weights can be adjusted without removing the spool. The gear ratio in the 200 and 400 size models has also been increased. All reels feature Shimano's A-RB stainless steel ball bearings, Super Stopper to eliminate back play and enable solid hooksets, and a Dartanium drag. The larger CT400B, 400BSV and 700BSV include a clicker that increases the tension on the freespool and activates a "fish-on" clicking alarm whilst the CT400BSV and 700BSV also have 3-Position Power Grips that allow for three diff erent hand positions for various fishing techniques. The CT400BSV and 700BSV are designed without a top crossbar or level wind to provide better access to the spool.
